Recently, Nebraska Democrats changed to a caucus rather than a primary system. Quite simply a caucus is a closed meeting. It is where we choose our candidates to run for office, discuss and begin the process of voicing our opinions, choosing our issues, policies, and the creation of our party platform.
In 2008 Democrats met in several locations in Dawson and Gosper counties, but this year both Dawson and Gosper County Democrats will Caucus on April 14, 2012 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Lexington Middle School. All Democrats in these two counties are welcome, but you MUST be a registered Democrat to participate. Residents of these two counties who are not registered to vote as Democrats may do so at that time.
Voters in attendance will also have a chance to voice their concerns and opinions to President Obama. We will be writing a letter that can be signed by all who support its content.
After our business is concluded we will have a social time so we can get to know our fellow Democrats. We will have chili and veggie trays and coffee and tea will be available. There will even be a few door prizes and a chance to win the really special prize of an American flag that has flown over the capital building in Washington, D.C.
This is an important step in our Democratic process.
We hope to see you at the Caucus.
